May 2026 Update

We’ve spay/neutered over 1,000 cats and dogs this year!

In January – May of 2026, we spay/neutered 1,091 cats and dogs from MN to Mexico. What an incredible number, and it’s all thanks to this community.

We funded 279 spay/neuter surgeries across our programs in May:

In Mexico:

  • Playa del Carmen: 97 spay/neuter surgeries (77 cats and 20 dogs)
  • Atlatlahucan: 82 spay/neuter surgeries (40 cats and 42 dogs)
  • CDMX (Mexico City): 4 spay/neuter surgeries (4 cats)

In Minnesota:

  • TNR: 96 cats
  • Rescue Help: 4 kittens being fostered before being transferred to a rescue partner

1,000+ spay/neuters completed, and we still have seven months to go! We’re excited for what the next few months bring our way, and we hope you’ll join us on our mission to prevent animal suffering through accessible spay/neuter and TNR.

April 2026 Update

We funded 244 spay/neuter surgeries across our programs:

In Mexico:

  • Playa del Carmen: 90 surgeries (52 cats and 38 dogs)
  • Atlatlahucan: 76 surgeries (29 cats and 47 dogs)
  • CDMX (Mexico City): 2 surgeries (2 cats)

In Minnesota:

  • TNR: 76 cats
  • Rescue Help: 12 social cats/kittens transferred to partner rescues

These 244 surgeries are not just numbers. They are individuals who will never experience the struggle of raising litters on the streets. They are families who will no longer have to watch animals suffer from preventable illness. They are communities where the cycle of overpopulation slows, just a little, because someone decided to help.

These April surgeries bring our year-to-date total to 812 sterilizations. And 812 surgeries mean more than 6,000 kittens and puppies prevented from being born into hardship.

When we say that spay/neuters prevent suffering, we really mean it. Thank you for making this work possible.

March 2026 Update

We funded 245 spay/neuter surgeries across our programs:

In Mexico:

  • Playa del Carmen: 46 cats and 37 dogs
  • Atlatlahucan: 48 cats and 25 dogs
  • CDMX (Mexico City): 6 cats

In Minnesota:

  • TNR: 83 cats

In one month, we funded 245 spay/neuter surgeries. That’s 245 lives changed and thousands of homeless puppies and kittens prevented.

We couldn’t do this work without our partners in Mexico: Coco’s Animal Welfare, Rocco’s Relief Foundation, and Rachelle in CDMX. We couldn’t do this work without the colony caregivers, trappers, and transport volunteers in MN. And we couldn’t do this work without you: the community that funds this lifesaving work.

February 2026 Update

February was a month of showing up. For animals, for neighbors, for families who are afraid, and for caregivers who refuse to give up.

In February, we funded 164 spay/neuter surgeries across our programs:

In Mexico:

  • Playa del Carmen: 28 cats and 24 dogs
  • Atlatlahucan: 24 cats and 16 dogs
  • CDMX: 1 cat

In Minnesota:

  • TNR: 73 cats

Every surgery prevents suffering. Every spay/neutered animals means fewer litters born into suffering.

We continued our mutual aid work in February, too. We spent $3,008 on groceries and pet food, which we delivered to 22 households and a local school. We aren’t sure what the future looks like in MN, but we are committed to supporting our neighbors.

January 2026 Update

Our work is guided by a simple truth: compassion for animals is inseparable from compassion for people. In a time when many in our communities are bearing witness to pain and sheltering for safety, building networks of practical care feels more vital than ever. We funded 159 spay/neuter surgeries this month, and are committed to keeping the energy up and remaining steadfast in supporting our neighbors and communities.

Here’s what your support made possible in January:

In Mexico:

  • Playa del Carmen: 65 spay/neuter surgeries performed at our weekly, free clinics with Coco’s Animal Welfare
  • Atlatlahucan, Morelos: 30 spay/neuter surgeries for owned and street animals with Rocco’s Relief Foundation
  • Mexico City: 18 cats spay/neutered (of a 30-cat goal) on one block, in partnership with local caregivers & Dr. Rod.

In Minnesota:

  • TNR: 46 community cats were successfully spayed/neutered and returned to their colonies
  • Community Support: We continued to deliver cat food, litter, and essential groceries to caregivers sheltering in place due to safety concerns.

2025 Year-End Update

In 2025, with the critical partnership of organizations like Coco’s Animal Welfare and Rocco’s Relief Foundation, and powered by our donors and volunteers, we reached a historic milestone: 3,108 spay/neuter surgeries provided.

This work is a direct investment in community health and animal welfare, and the data tells the story of that impact:

In Minnesota, our expanded TNR program spayed/neutered 644 community cats, while facilitating rescue for 58 friendly cats and kittens.

In Mexico, 2,464 spay/neuter surgeries provided accessible care where it is needed most.

Overall: These 3,108 procedures in 2025 are estimated to prevent the suffering of over 23,310 unwanted puppies and kittens.

This is what your support builds: measurable, multiplying change. It is a testament to the power of showing up, consistently and practically, for our communities — both human and animal.

Thank you for being the force behind these numbers. Thank you for choosing to make a tangible difference. Your partnership is our hope for the year ahead.

November 2025 Update

November was a huge month for Pet Project Rescue! At the end of the month, we officially hit a new milestone of over 3,000 spays/neuters in one year – 3,045 to be exact – and the year isn’t complete yet.

In Minnesota, our TNR program ensured that 35 community cats can live healthier lives without contributing to overpopulation with spay/neuter surgeries, and we facilitated rescue for two social cats.

In Mexico, our partnership with Coco’s Animal Welfare is creating deep, sustained impact. From weekly neighborhood clinics to our recent large-scale event, we provided 1,285 spay/neuter surgeries in November alone. This is the power of accessible, high-quality care.
